AD might also improve mobility for elderly drivers, providing them with mobility options that go beyond public transportation or car-sharing services. Since workers can perform their jobs from an autonomous car, they could more easily move farther away from the office, which, in turn, could attract more people to rural areas and suburbs. For employees with long commutes, driving an AV might increase worker productivity and even shorten the workday. Hours on the road previously spent driving could be used to video call a friend, watch a funny movie, or even work. AD systems may make driving safer, more convenient, and more enjoyable. (Other McKinsey publications explore the potential of shared AVs such as robo-taxis and robo-shuttles, as well as autonomous trucks and autonomous last-mile delivery.) Autonomous driving could produce substantial value for drivers, the auto industry, and societyĪD could revolutionize the way consumers experience mobility. It also outlines critical success factors that every auto OEM, supplier, and tech provider should know in order to win in the AD passenger car market. This report, which focuses on the private-passenger-car segment of the AD market, examines the potential for autonomous technologies to disrupt the passenger car market. To realize the consumer and commercial benefits of autonomous driving, however, auto OEMs and suppliers may need to develop new sales and business strategies, acquire new technological capabilities, and address concerns about safety. 1 McKinsey Center for Future Mobility analysis. Right now, every major car maker here and abroad is working on bringing autonomous vehicles to consumers. And, like every other computer-controlled device, it can be vulnerable to hacking. It will cause us to grapple with new ethical dilemmas-if a car will hit a person or a building, endangering the lives of its passengers, who will decide what it does? It will further erode our privacy, since the vehicle can relay our location at any moment. It will overturn the job market for the one in seven Americans who work in the trucking industry. 11/10/2023 0 Comments Rode podmic windscreenWhether you're intending on becoming a streamer for the likes of Twitch or YouTube Gaming, or you've got your sights set on podcasting to a professional standard, the Rode PodMic is an easy recommendation for the money. ![]() Keep in mind, though, that you'll need to shell out a little extra for a decent stand or boom arm to get the most out of this model, but I think this microphone more than justifies that extra cost at a very competitive rate. ![]() (Image credit: Rode) Should you buy the Rode PodMic?įor $99, the Rode PodMic is one of the best value propositions you can get right now, especially when compared to the likes of the far more expensive Shure MV7 ($250 MSRP) while offering similar performance. If you're after a microphone that can do it all to a professional standard then this model certainly lives up to expectations. In my testing, I've found that this model was easily able to track both clean and harsh singing with only slight adjustments needed in the gain settings to prevent clipping. While the Rode PodMic is certainly best suited to podcasting and streaming, it's also proved formidable for recording vocals, too. The responsiveness of the Rode PodMic is very precise, which meant that I was able to comfortably talk at a regular level without feeling the urge to speak louder to pick up properly, a problem that I've had with some USB microphones I've used in the past. Whether it was my tried-and-true Behringer U-PHORIA UMC202HD, my previous daily-driver audio interface for streaming and recording music, or the brand's recently released RodeCaster Pro II, nothing has come close to matching the sound quality on offer here. This is due to its dynamic cardioid nature, which has a frequency range between 20Hz and 20kHz, meaning it can be easily fine-tuned through your audio interface of choice for optimum output settings. Whether I've tasked the microphone with live streams, recording music, or tracking commentary tracks for VOD content, the accuracy and clarity that comes out of this punchy piece of kit cannot be overstated. ![]() Simply put, the Rode PodMic is the best-sounding microphone I've ever used. View conversations and evaluations of your reproductive system as productive. Now that you understand the nature of ovarian cysts, do not be afraid to speak up about any pelvic pain or discomfort. If it’s large, it can be either drained (if filled with liquid) or surgically removed. That’s typically the only solution if an ovarian cyst is not detrimental. So that would minimize the chances of you developing those specific types of physical functional cysts,” Williams, MD., states. Since it’s related to ovulation, “oftentimes, providers will prescribe birth control pills because birth control pills suppress ovulation. It comes with the territory of being a female. On the unfortunate side, ovarian cysts are not preventable. That’s dangerous because ” it can twist on itself and cause a lot of pain, causing you to potentially lose an ovary because it blocks the blood flow and the blood supply to that ovary where the cyst originates.” Fortunately, scenarios of that sort are rare in younger patients, she stated. That characteristic is mainly it being “substantial in size,” she elaborates. Unfortunately this link has since stopped working.Īt the bottom of this page I included a schematic which would have helped me a bit more than the schematic at the above website. I used paper that was about 3 inches square, and ended with a torus that was about 16 inches in diameter.Īlso, if you want to make your own torus I have a few of my own recommendations: I was able to do it with their schematic - but I had a little trouble. If they are perfectly square it will make the rest of the process easier! There are a lot of squares to cut, but don't rush them. Some splaying will happen, but any sloppiness translates into the final torus. I would not suggest cutting a square, folding the unit, and then cutting another square. I first cut all the squares, then I folded all the units - even breaking that up into stages. This might make it more tedious, but I think it helped make the final model more consistent. ![]() There are a couple really nice color schemes out there for this model, it certainly looks elegant in a single color. I've also seen a rainbow pattern which looks really cool. I wanted something a little bit bit different to go with the elefantenhaut paper I wanted to use, so I set out to find a three coloring. The graph which is formed by the individual PHiZZ units is a 3-regular graph, in that each vertex has exactly 3 edges leaving it, so we know that it can be edge colored in at most 4 colors. To find the 3 coloring I folded a test one (yeah, an entire test torus out of just regular printer paper.), labeled the vertices / edges, and worked out the graph on a sheet of paper. ![]() I used the fact that the graph has 12 fold rotational symmetry and I encoded 1 / 12 of the three coloring as a SAT problem and solved it with glucose. Oh yeah, I also made a quick visualization of the graph: There are more efficient ways of solving three colorings, but this was fun. I used Zanders Elefantenhaut which is a book binding paper. ![]() It is relatively thick for origami but is really good for wetfolding, tesselations, or this sort of modular origami. It is nice and crisp, holds a fold really well, and doesn't crack. I used a big straightedge and an xacto knife to cut the squares. The cutting actually took a long time because I wanted to be relatively accurate, so I only cut through one sheet at a time. Now folding, first I did all the 'accordions'. Two pictures for hours and hours of work spread out over several weeks. This is the only picture I have from the final assembly - got on a bit of a roll! They slot together without any tape or glue which is nice. It should be noted that the units above can be assembled into many forms including a 12-unit cube, a 30-unit stellated icosahedron, a 60-unit spiked pentakis dodecahedron, a 90-unit dodecahedral model, and even larger assemblies.I started with the inner 12 hexagons which was by far easiest, then all the heptagons, then the pentagons, and then finally all the remaining hexagons to close it out. Swan Sonobe: this unit is so named because the assembled models have a pattern which looks like the head and neck of an origami bird. Striped Sonobe: Obvious from its name, this origami unit forms striking stripes. Snow-Capped Sonobe 1: When assembled, the white parts of the paper converge at the corner giving the appearance of snow at the peak of mountains. When assembled, units form a white (back side of origami paper) pinwheel pattern, or a daisy pattern. Mukerji modified the original Sonobe Unit to generate pleasing variations.ĭaisy Sonobe. She’s got the true heart of a teacher and is one of our favorites! Here’s a great video by Leah from the YouTube channel “See Jane Drill” that will help with this. But while they serve the same intent, they are very different.Įach material has advantages and disadvantages that are important for homeowners to understand. There’s nothing “wrong” with either product. Just ask those in New Orleans affected by flooding from Hurricane Katrina. ![]() However, drywall isn’t as sound-deadening as plaster, and it’s actually much less resilient to moisture. And if that’s not possible, good drywall tradespersons are much easier to find than those with plastering skills. Many repairs can be DIY if you have drywall vs plaster walls. Like plaster, drywall offers a level of fire resistance. Then, the seams and fasteners are finished smooth with tape and a joint compound “mud.” It provides a “warmer” feel to a room. ![]() It attaches to the wall studs and ceiling trusses by the use of screws or nails. Unlike the “wet” application of plaster, it is put on in dried sheets, hence the name DRYwall. On the other hand, drywall is much easier, faster, and cheaper to install and repair. For the uninitiated, plaster walls present challenges to securely hanging pictures or TVs on the wall (although it’s definitely possible if you learn how).Ĭheck out our related article on HOW TO FIND A STUD IN PLASTER WALLS. It’s held on by suction, mechanical bonds such as “keys,” or a chemical bonding agent. Thus, the thickness of plaster can be somewhat inconsistent since it is applied by hand. Plaster is applied “wet” by hand troweling, often in multiple layers over a wood or metal lath, or gypsum lath boards. It’s a material that is generally durable and resilient to moisture, which is why it used to be popular in Florida homes. It’s literally a rock, making for quieter and “cooler” feeling spaces. Plaster is also harder and more time-consuming to install and repair. You may also notice that plaster walls are more susceptible to cracking from building settlement or thermal expansion/contraction. The short answer is that plaster is literally harder than drywall. Learning how to spot plaster versus drywall is pretty straightforward. RELATED: IS YOUR SUBPANEL WIRED WRONG? LET’S TALK ABOUT IMPROPER SUBPANEL BONDING Plaster vs Drywall You won’t be so lucky if you have plaster walls. Plus, there are plenty of drywall contractors you can call to help you out. Most new homes these days are made with drywall, and you can easily find supplies at your local hardware supply store. If you have an older home, or are considering purchasing one, you might need to learn how to handle plaster walls.ĭrywall, on the other hand, is easier to deal with and probably more familiar to you. Hope that helps….While inspecting homes across the Central Florida area, we run into various versions of this question all of the time: What’s the difference between plaster walls/ceilings and drywall? I love Liquitex modeling paste too! But yes, it would get pricey on large substrates. Drywall contractors know more about their products than artists, unless you get an artist that has already done the research for you….so call a drywall company for specific product, and also tell them how you want to work with compound in regard to primers, paints, glazes, etc. One thing I’ve learned in mixed media and assemblage, is to ask the person who has expertise in the technique or the type of product I’m after. I’ve read that you can simply mix white school glue in your joint compound, but if you can purchase a ready to go product (which you likely can), the work is done for you. Drywall product is brittle and glue helps that. If you check with contractors, drywall experts, or any store selling drywall and plaster products, they should be able to tell you of a flexible brand. The product I was going to use was a wet product that required no water mixing and a glue in it rendered it more flexible. You mention added “Glue”…what kind of glue. In 8 years so far, never had a single crack or even the slightest sign of warping. I do all of my paintings on laminated Luan hollow core door panels wich i prime twice before i texture. I presently use Liquitex modeling paste that i like a lot.
